PERKESO hosted the 2023 PERKESO Appreciation Luncheon on November 1, 2023, at the InterContinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The event celebrates the ongoing and productive collaboration between PERKESO and PERKESO esteemed strategic allies, which includes Embassies, High Commissions, Social Security Institutions, affiliated Associations, and various Malaysian government agencies.
Labour migration fuels socio-economic development for both the sending and recipient countries. Since the 1st of January 2019, social security protection was extended to all documented foreign workers in cases of work-related injuries under the Employees’ Social Security Act (Act 4).
Dato’ Sri Dr. Azman Aziz, Group Chief Executive Officer of PERKESO said, furthermore, starting June 1, 2021, PERKESO expanded social security coverage to local and foreign domestic workers in Malaysia, marking a significant milestone for those in the ‘Care Economy.’
However, only 39.67% of foreign domestic workers in Malaysia are currently covered by the PERKESO scheme, which demonstrate much room for improvement.
Azman Aziz said:”Besides promoting awareness among foreign workers, we are actively working with the Ministry to extend the PERKESO Invalidity Scheme to migrant workers, ensuring a more comprehensive protection for this segment of our workforce.”
“I extend my sincere gratitude to YB V. Sivakumar, Minister of Human Resources, for delivering the opening remarks today. My appreciation also goes out to YBhg Dato’ Hajah Norison Ramli, Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), Ministry of Human Resources, YBhg Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal, the Chairman of the Social Security Organization (PERKESO), and all our esteemed guests representing High Commissions, Embassies, and Social Security Institutions from various countries, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, China, and the Philippines, for gracing this event with their presence.”
Azman Aziz said:”The ceremony was enriched by the PERKESO Appreciation Award Ceremony, with the main categories including Embassy and High Commissions, Social Security Institutions, and Agencies/Departments. “
“My heartfelt congratulations go out to all the well- deserving recipients. I look forward to our well established partnerships evolving and bringing even greater protection to the foreign workers in Malaysia.”
